Raytheon Company is a diversified company active in electronics, aviation, appliances, industry services, and publishing. There are three Boston-area divisions. The Missile Systems Division designs and manufactures ground-, air-, and ship-launched missile systems including the Patriot missile. Headquarters is in Bedford, Massachusetts. The Equipment Division's activities include air traffic control, satellite, and radar and ship systems. Division headquarters is in Marlborough, Massachusetts. The Submarine Signal Division, based in Portsmouth, Rhode Island, provides sonar systems for ships and submarines.
Raytheon was founded in 1922. The company has 76,000 employees worldwide, with 34,500 in eastern Massachusetts. Corporate headquarters is in Lexington, Massachusetts.
