Typical projects have included providing network services, systems software maintenance, and technical support to a major corporation and building an executive information system for a state government accounting office.

Culture

Professionals are exposed to a variety of client organizations and have the opportunity to refine knowledge of a particular industry area of interest.

Arthur Andersen observes 10 or 11 holidays, depending on the year. The company offers medical, disability, dental, and life insurance; tuition reimbursement on a selective basis, and 401(k) and profit-sharing programs.

Candidates

Professionals are hired for different practices within Andersen Consulting. For the Technology practice, candidates should have technical backgrounds that include graduation in the top 20 percent of their class, strong analytical skills, excellent interpersonal skills, ability to balance several projects at one time, and interest in consulting. The majority of professionals hired for this practice are entry-level candidates found through campus recruiting. A few, selectively hired, experienced professionals are also chosen for this practice.

In the Change Management practice, professionals help large clients organize major changes, focusing on personnel and human resource issues, job redesign, and training. Entry-level professionals are hired in this practice as well as candidates with experience in change management consulting.

For the Strategic Services practice, the typical entry-level candidate has a Master’s degree in Business Administration (MBA). Experienced candidates should have experience in strategic consulting, typically from firms such as McKinsey & Bain or Booz, Allen & Hamilton.
