Their communications environment looks like a top vendor’s list from the industry – Cisco, Lucent, 3Com, Wall Data, WRQ, and Sterling Software, to start. Current job openings include – no surprise – Network Service Analyst, Command Center Technician, and Web Infrastructure Support Technicians. Average commuting time to the complex and varied environment – 15 to 20 minutes. Or, you could live in the country, in the farm-belt area halfway between Chicago and St. Louis.

Living its own press about being a good neighbor, interviews are respectful, because, as Temby puts it, “With one-fourth of the country’s car owners insured by State Farm, the person you are interviewing could be a policyholder.” Increase those odds when you consider that the company is also the largest homeowner’s insurance policyholder, the largest in recreational boats insurance, a significant player in life and health insurance, and has recently entered the financial services arena.

Surprise technology being investigated: hands-free wearable computers with a wireless networking interface so you are always connected. That’s connectedness and then some.
